Drivers who were trying to get out of downtown Calgary on Monday afternoon and evening were faced with delays after police closed a stretch of Memorial Drive.
In a post to social media just before 4 p.m., Calgary police asked motorists to avoid the area of Memorial and Edmonton Trail NE due to “an ongoing incident.”
Eastbound Memorial is closed in the area. The closure is causing delays along eastbound Memorial west of Edmonton Trail, and also for motorists trying to get out of the downtown core using the 5 Avenue Flyover.
The road reopened just before midnight.
Drivers heading eastbound on Memorial were being forced to either turn south onto 4 Street into downtown or turn north onto Edmonton Trail.
The westbound lanes of Memorial remained open through the area.
