More charges have been laid after an explosion and fire that destroyed townhomes in northeast Calgary last year.

Emergency crews were called to Las Americas Villas in Monterey Park around 11 p.m. on Oct. 5 for reports of a fire.

Investigators believe an explosion in one of the townhomes caused the blaze that spread to neighbouring homes. The fire destroyed four residences and sent six people to hospital.

Officials believe a man and a woman started the fire on purpose after using an accelerant.

Calgary resident Gavin Peter Robinson, 40, has been charged with arson causing damage to property and possession of incendiary material. He was previously facing an arson charge for disregard for human life.

Police have also charged Rose-Anne Nelson-Robinson, 43, with the same three offences.

Both of the accused are expected to appear in a Calgary courtroom in February.
