The owners of several businesses in a northeast Calgary strip mall are reeling Friday after their building was destroyed by fire.
The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) says around 1 a.m. crews were dispatched to a multi-unit commercial strip mall on 36 Street NE.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire on one side of the roof, according to CFD.
Responders forced entry into the building and used hoses to keep the flames confined to the roof.
The size of the building and magnitude of the fire prompted CFD to call for a second alarm.
Ladders were used to contain the blaze to the south end of the roof.
In total, 11 fire trucks were needed to bring the fire under control.
No one was inside the building and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
