Calgary moves one step closer to boosting road safety funding

    UP NEXT:

At around 4:50 a.m., Saturday morning Airdrie RCMP responded to reports of multiple homes on fire at the corner of McCulloch Crescent and Madison Drive in Irricana just northeast of Calgary.

Mounties and emergency crews responded to an overnight fire that gutted multiple homes in Rocky View County just northeast of Calgary Saturday.

It happened just before 5 a.m. at the corner of McCulloch Crescent and Madison Drive in the Town of Irricana.

Airdrie RCMP and fire crews from Rocky View County, Airdrie, and Crossfield helped douse the flames.

No injuries have been reported, police say, adding the fire is now extinguished.

Fire crews tell 660 NewsRadio that two homes were affected.

Derek Craddock, whose family lives next door to the homes affected, tells 660 NewsRadio they were completely engulfed in flames.

He was working a late shift when his parents sent him a message with video and pictures about the fire, which he says got bigger and bigger.

“It was a scary scene, seeing both homes just get completely destroyed in a matter of minutes,” Craddock said.

His parents were out the door immediately and saw the families affected, seeing one of them in complete shock.

“There was a lot of other neighbours who … as soon as they saw them come out of the house, and the fire trucks arrived, they were consoling them,” Craddock said.

“Everyone was making sure that everyone was okay, that everyone got out.”

Meanwhile, the RCMP asks residents to avoid the area as crews investigate.
