A new housing unit in Calgary is aiming to address the city’s affordable housing crisis.

An affordable housing development in Calgary’s southwest will open the doors to 29 units for women and children next month.

The building, in Killarney, will provide easy access to transit, schools, shopping, amenities, and quality of life for Calgarians in need of safe and affordable housing.

“This affordable housing project in Killarney is a testament to why we need to create these housing opportunities. We’re not only putting a roof over people’s heads, we’re providing safe and welcoming homes where families can put down roots and thrive within an established community,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek. “I thank all involved for providing Calgarians with an opportunity for a brighter future.”

The development, by Onward, was made possible by more than $8 million from the federal government Rapid Housing Initiative, $1.15 from the City of Calgary, and $3.4 million from the Government of Alberta.

Construction on the project started in late 2023 and was finished, on budget, this month.

Onward will open the the doors to its first residents in February.
