A Calgary man is facing charges after Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) seized more than a kilogram and a half of fentanyl.

The agency’s organized crime team made the seizure last week at a Beltline apartment.

If sold at street value, the fentanyl seized by police would be worth an estimated $150,000. ALERT also seized benzodiazepine, often used as a fentanyl buffing agent, and $17,550 in cash.

The suspect, 29-year-old Bolutife Opeodu, was arrested by police during a traffic stop in the area of his home. His vehicle was also searched.

Opeodu is now facing charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

ALERT began an investigation in Opeodu in December after information was received about his alleged links to drug trafficking activities.
