Calgary man charged with attempted murder after NW assault

    UP NEXT:

A man is bitten by a dog and taken to hospital as Calgary Police look for the animal in the community of Forest Lawn. Phoenix Phillips reports.

Police are out searching for a dog that bit a man’s face Calgary’s Forest Lawn Tuesday morning.

Staff Sgt. John Guigon says a man called 911 around 6:30 a.m. to report he had been attacked by a large dog on 17 Avenue SE.

He explains there is conflicting information from witnesses on whether the dog was at large or being walked by a person who was unable to control them.

Guigon says reports to police also indicate there was a second, smaller dog, that was not involved in the biting.

Though initial reports indicated the biting dog was a Pitbull-type, police now believe it is more likely a Dogo Argentino breed such as a mastiff.

EMS attended the scene to help the man and take him to hospital. Police say the victim has serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The dog hasn’t been seen since the alleged incident, but police and bylaw officers are in the area looking for it.

Guigon says anyone who believes they’ve seen the animal should call 911.

“I would stay well a way from it and notify [police] immediately,” he said.

    This is a developing story.
