Skier dead after avalanche in Rockies near Golden, B.C.

One person is dead after an avalanche in the Rocky Mountains in B.C. on Monday.

In an online post, Avalanche Canada says the slide happened near Kapristo Mountain, about 20 kilometres southeast of Golden.

The organization says two skiers were on a slope when one triggered “a wind slab avalanche near the top.”

The slide ran down the hill about a kilometre into a confined gulley. The skier was near the toe of the avalanche and was buried 120 centimetres below the surface, according to the post.

No details on the victim have been released.
