1 facing manslaughter charge after man dies trying to break up fight at Calgary restaurant

A man is being charged with manslaughter Saturday after another man died trying to stop a fight at a restaurant on Calgary’s International Avenue, police say.

Officers say it happened on Monday, Feb. 17, when a fight broke out at an after-hours party at a restaurant on the 2800 block of 17 Avenue SE at around 6:30 a.m.

The victim, 24-year-old Adonai Tekle, tried to deescalate the situation but was allegedly struck in the head in the process. He was taken to a home in Marlborough 40 minutes later and then rushed to hospital at around 3:30 p.m. after being found unconscious.

Tekle died of his injuries Thursday.
