A downtown Calgary intersection has reopened after a glass window fell from the upper floor of a building on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of 8 Avenue SW and 8 Street SW around 2 p.m. for reports of falling glass.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) says glass fell from the eighth floor of a building at the southwest corner of the intersection.

Fire crews used a ladder truck to secure any remaining loose glass.

    No injuries have been reported.

“This could have been deadly,” says CFD in a statement. “Calgary’s weather can change quickly and high winds like those we experienced today can create dangerous situations.”

The city saw wind gusts clocked at more than 80 km/h on Thursday, according to 660 NewsRadio meteorologist Kevin Stanfield.

Police initially closed the streets and sidewalks in the area for safety. The roads and sidewalks have since reopened.
