Getting to work Monday may have been challenging for some Calgarians thanks to the return of Daylight Saving Time and wet, heavy snow.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says two to four centimetres of snow will fall when all is said and done. The forecasted high for Monday is 3 C, but a wind chill made it a brisk -13 C in the morning.
That won’t be the end of the white stuff this week — more snow is expected to arrive Thursday, according to the weather agency.
“I believe March is typically the snowiest month in Calgary,” explained meteorologist Rob Griffiths. “So, definitely not out of the woods as far as winter goes.
“We’re looking at a high of 10 or 11 on Wednesday, down to a high of -5 C on Friday, with a little bit more snow in there too.”
The Bow Valley needs a decent storm — or two — as its water supply is currently rated “much below average.”
According to Alberta Parks, the weather station at Skoki Lodge is reporting a lower snowpack than last year. Alberta Rivers has also said 33 water basins are under water shortage advisories.
For now, the province has declared Stage 1 drought conditions for the area.
K-Country sees snowfall warnings
ECCC is reporting snowfall warnings for west of Calgary Monday — in Banff National Park, the Kootenay Park region of Yoho Park, and other areas of Kananaskis Country.
Those areas are expected to get anywhere from 10 to 25 centimetres.
Griffiths says those warnings will likely disappear by noon.
“There’s a low pressure system moving through the southern prairies this morning and it’s going to give a quick shot of snow,” he said.
City crews respond to crashes
Emergency responders were kept busy Monday with more weather-related incidents than in recent weeks.
The Calgary Police Service says from midnight to 8 a.m., officers responded to 24 non-injury collisions and five injury collisions.

Four of those crashes were hit-and-runs.
