Man dead after crash on Highway 1A near Cochrane: RCMP

A serious crash on Highway 1A near Cochrane left  one person dead and two others injured Wednesday morning.

RCMP say one person is dead and two others are seriously injured after a crash on Highway 1A Wednesday morning.

Officers were sent to the scene on Highway 1A at the intersection of Mountain Ridge Place, east of Cochrane, around 5:15 a.m.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a 35-year-old man from Calgary, was found dead when first responders got to the scene.

Two other people in a second vehicle were seriously injured, according to police.

Traffic was redirected in all directions for several hours while emergency workers responded and police investigated.

Around 6:40 a.m., STARS Air Ambulance posted to social media its resources were being sent to the area.

According to 511 Alberta, the road reopened to traffic around 10:15 a.m.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
