Calgary police are investigating after an “unintentional discharge” of a service firearm at a district officer over the weekend.
The Calgary Police Service (CPS) says around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, an officer unintentionally discharged one round of their service-issued pistol inside of the Calgary Police Service District 2 office, at 4506 17 Avenue SW.
Officers on scene determined no one in the office was hurt and the bullet traveled outside the building through a second-story window facing south.
According to police, the area encompasses the District 2 parking lot along 17 Avenue SW and the community of Glendale on the other side of the road.
Investigators thoroughly searched the area and spoke with people in Glendale to make sure no one was hurt and no property was damaged, CPS says.
CPS has yet to find the bullet.
As per service police, a General Investigations Unit was called to the scene to gather and preserve evidence.
The professional standards section will review the incident to determine compliance with CPS policies.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
