One person injured in collision involving cyclist in NW Calgary

    UP NEXT:

Calgary police say a man has been charged in a fatal hit and run that took place in the city’s Northwest earlier this week.

Charges have been laid against one person in a hit-and-run collision on Stoney Trail that claimed the life of a woman earlier this week.

Investigators say the collision happened just before midnight on Tuesday, in the southbound lanes of Stoney Trail NW on the approach to the bridge deck of Nose Hill Drive NW.

At the time, a white 2019 Toyota Corolla, driven by a woman in her 50s, was driving south on Stoney Trail in one of the lanes closer to the median.

Police believe the Corolla was hit by an unknown vehicle, believed to be a semi-truck and trailer combination, that left the scene.

A short time later, a roadway maintenance truck with two people in it came upon the scene and gave medical aid to the woman.

According to police, moments later, a black 2018 Ram truck, driven by a 21-year-old man with a 21-year-old passenger, hit a post and cable barrier in the median, striking the woman. The Ram then hit the back of the road maintenance truck.

Investigators say the woman was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

On Wednesday, police located a semi-truck in Rocky View County and identified it as the vehicle that had left the scene of the collision.

Investigators had previously said the vehicle would be missing its landing gear.

The driver of the truck, 25-year-old Gaganpreet Singh, has been charged with hit-and-run causing death.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage of the incident, is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
