Street sweeping to start in Calgary April 14

It’s a sign of the times — the City of Calgary is set to start street sweeping next week.

The city’s website says the annual spring cleaning will begin on Monday, April 14 and run through June.

Sweeping will happen Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The city says its street sweeping program cleans more than 16,000 kilometres of paved roads.

Calgarians are asked to watch for signs in their community, use the address lookup, or sign up for email or text notifications to know when it’s their turn.

On sweeping day, residents should move their cars into driveways, garages, or alleyways.

Any vehicle that hasn’t been removed from the street during the parking ban could end up with a ticket. Calgary Parking uses camera vehicles for enforcement, and tickets will arrive through the mail, according to the city.

Those who have front street garbage collection on their sweeping date are asked to keep their bin off the road and instead leave it on the boulevard or lawn. However, it’s asked that sidewalks are not blocked by garbage bins.

Any non-standard, prohibited driveway ramps should be removed from the curb and gutter that provide access to a front driveway onto private property should be removed. Other obstructions like basketball nets should also be moved from the road, the city says.
