Calgarian learned he won $1M lotto prize several months later

It took a few tries, but Calgary’s newest millionaire was finally able to convince his wife he had a winning lotto ticket from last summer.

Ming Zhu bought the ticket back on Aug. 9, 2024, but he didn’t check it until recently and found out it was a million dollar winner.

“I checked [the ticket] again and again,” he said. “Then I left the store and told the news to my wife.”

She didn’t believe him until he pulled out his laptop and showed her the numbers on the website matched the ticket he was holding.

The pair started celebrating and the couple started deciding how they were going to spend the windfall.

“We’re going to buy a new home,” says Zhu.

Zhu purchased his winning ticket from a Shoppers Drug Mart in northwest Calgary.

Draw-based lottery tickets expire one year from the draw date, according to Lotto Spot. The prized can’t be claimed after those dates.
