2nd alarm called for blaze in NE building under construction: CFD

A severe and difficult-to-contain building fire in northeast Calgary led firefighters to ring the alarm for more resources Sunday morning.

It happened in a six-story building under construction at the corner of McDougall Road and 9A Street NE.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) says crews responded just before 5 a.m. and found the fire in a large room on the fifth floor, which was used to store construction equipment and tools.

Because of the size of the building, a second alarm was called to bring in more help.

No injuries were reported, and no one was found inside.

The fire was reported as being under control while also being ventilated.

As the cause of the fire is under investigation, CFD is asking Calgarians who have photos, video or information regarding this fire, especially before CFD’s arrival, to email them at piofire@calgary.ca.
