Woman in 20s critically hurt after ski accident at Sunshine Village

A woman in her 20s is in critical condition after a ski accident at Banff Sunshine Village over the weekend.

A spokesperson from the ski resort tells CityNews the incident happened on a black diamond run at Lookout Mountain on Sunday.

A 26-year-old woman from Sweden was skiing down the run at “excess speed” when she hit a roller in the snow before crashing. Members of the resort staff witnessed the crash and responded quickly.

The woman was stabilized and transported to the base of the ski hill, and eventually transported to STARS air ambulance where she was brought to Calgary’s Foothills hospital in critical condition.

The resort says the woman was wearing a helmet despite reportedly suffering a head injury.

“Our team will work and comply with any information that is needed and further investigate the incident,” says Kendra Scurfield, spokesperson at Banff Sunshine Village.
