    UP NEXT:

Calgary fire crews rescued a family's beloved pets during an early morning house fire in the city's southwest.

A family of three was able to escape a fire from their southwest Calgary home early Tuesday, but firefighters had to rescue their pets.

Fire crews were called to a home on Glenmount Drive SW in the community of Glendale around 2:30 a.m. for reports of a fire.

According to the Calgary Fire Department (CFD), crews arrived to find an adult and two children had evacuated the house where heavy smoke was coming from the front door.

Firefighters found fire and dense smoke inside the home and were able to bring the blaze under control.

The family’s two dogs and guinea pig were rescued from the home. Crews needed to apply lifesaving measures to one of the dogs to revive it — the other pets not injured.

Calgary police took the revived dog to an emergency vet.

CFD says fire damage was contained to common spaces inside the home, but smoke damage was throughout the house. The family will be displaced for the time being.

Officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
