Calgary Canucks repeat as Alberta Junior Hockey League champs

The Calgary Canucks have been crowned the kings of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) for the second year in a row.

The repeat came Wednesday night with a decisive 7-3 win over the Grande Prairie Storm, capturing the 2025 Inter Pipeline Cup in just four games.

Wednesday’s championship win was the eleventh for the junior team.

Canucks captain Bowden Singleton was named the 2025 AJHL Playoff MVP after scoring six goals and 25 points in 12 playoff games.

Head coach Brad Moran is relishing the moment.

“Winning our second straight cup and securing our place in the Centennial Cup as champions is an incredible feeling,” he said. “At the start of the season, we aimed to earn our way back, and the team rose to the occasion despite the pressure.”

The Canucks’ postseason was one for the books — a 12-1 record and a sweep of both the South Finals and the AJHL finals on the road to the championship.

“It’s ecstatic to see how far the team has come since the beginning of the year, when I joined the team, all the way up to now. Every player has stepped up, from the 16-year-olds to the 20-year-olds, with everyone playing a crucial role in our success,” said assistant coach Garry VanHereweghe.

The team will host the ten-team National Junior A Championship from May 8-18 at the Max Bell Centre.

Last year, the Canucks finished in the final four of the tournament, making it to the semifinals of the Centennial Cup.
