One person is facing charges and another is on the run after snatching two southern Alberta fire trucks and taking them on a joy ride.
Vulcan RCMP say on April 20, around 11:30 p.m., officers were notified of an alarm going off at a local business.
While they were on their way to the call, the responding officer came across two fire trucks from the nearby village of Champion that were speeding down the road and didn’t have their emergency lights on.
RCMP say the Champion Fire Hall was very close to where the commercial alarm call came from, so a decision was made to try and stop the fire trucks.
The trucks didn’t stop when prompted by the police officer.
Eventually, one person was arrested with the help of an RCMP police dog.
Another suspect has been identified but has yet to be arrested.
Officers were able to recover both fire trucks. However, a post to social media from Vulcan County indicates both vehicles had to be written off due to extensive damage.
Twenty-five-year-old Jaeden Glabb, from Peace River, has been charged with two counts of break and enter to a business, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and three counts of breaching a release order.
Glabb has since been remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in a Lethbridge courtoom on Friday.
Champion is about 150 kilometres south east of Calgary.
