First weekend of Day Out With Thomas at Calgary’s Heritage Park postponed to June

The little engine “that can do big things” won’t be chugging into Calgary’s Heritage Park Saturday, as Day Out With Thomas has been postponed.

Park officials said late Friday–less than 24 hours before–that the event has been postponed to the weekend of June 7-8. However, the May 10-11 dates are still being listed as a go.

An “unforeseen” mechanical issue with Thomas the Tank Engine is being cited as the reason.

“At Heritage Park, we’re proud to use authentic, historically accurate locomotives. That unique experience sometimes requires extra care—and in this case, more time for maintenance,” a notice from Heritage Park reads.

Some on Facebook expressed frustration at the short notice, noting the money and time spent travelling to Calgary.

Officials say Ticketweb will contact ticketholders via the email provided for the purchase, and their tickets will be automatically rescheduled to the new dates.

Additionally, ticketholders who can’t attend can contact Ticketweb at 866-468-7630 or help@ticketweb.ca to request a change or a full refund.

The event typically includes many activities, including a train ride with the little locomotive, photos, a meeting with the controller Sir Topham Hatt, face painting, a concert, and wagon rides.

The ride happens every 40 minutes at the Midnapore Station, starting at 9 a.m. and continuing until 5 p.m. for 12 chances each day.

A Day Out With Thomas began in 1987 and now happens in many countries, including Australia, the Netherlands, Japan, and Canada.
