Calgary’s Franklin LRT station parking lot to be turned into housing units

A big plan to convert one of the parking lots at Calgary’s Franklin LRT Station is in the works.
The city says 350 housing units will be constructed on the south side of the area.
Onward has been selected as the developer for the project, which will offer half its units at below market value.
“A transit site just opens up the door for them to reach the whole city from their doorstep,” said Onward chair Bryan Romanesky. “As we go through the design and we have a better idea of the number of units, with bachelors, one bedroom, two and three bedrooms, then we’ll be able to reach out to our partners and identify what is really needed.”
Mayor Jyoti Gondek says the site will also provide easier access to public transit.
“The administration team looked hard at where we could do projects like this, and Franklin came up as a logical site. It’s serviceable and we can get into the ground very quickly,” she said.
The project is part of the city’s housing strategy aimed at easing the housing crisis.
The city says shovels will hit the dirt in 2026.
