Calgary Transit

Buses, CTrains and On Demand will be operating on a Sunday level of service on Monday, May 19.

From Saturday, May 17 until start of service Tuesday, May 20, all downtown stations will be closed – from Sunalta to Bridgeland/Memorial on the Blue Line, and from Sunnyside to 39 Avenue on the Red Line.

7 Avenue will be closed to both train and bus traffic during this time to allow for required maintenance and utility work, so shuttle buses will replace train service through the downtown area, using standard parallel routing along both 6 Avenue and 9 Avenue.

Buses will replace Blue Line service between Bridgeland/Memorial and Westbrook stations, and there will be a separate Blue Line shuttle for travel to Sunalta Station. Three-car trains will be running all weekend, including Sunday and Victoria Day.

Maps and full route information for this weekend’s bus and CTrain detours can be found at calgarytransit.com/CTrain-service

Road construction

Several roads will be closed, including 9 Avenue SW from 14 Street to just before 11 Street SW. The city says four out of five eastbound lanes will be closed starting Friday, May 16, at 10 a.m. until Tuesday, May 20, at 5 a.m.

However, the intersection at 9 Avenue and 11 Street SW will remain open.

To help keep traffic moving, the city says the Bow Trail Lane Reversal will be in effect. This means a normally westbound lane between Bow Trail and 5 Avenue will be switched to run eastbound into downtown from Saturday, May 17, until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20.

Drivers normally using 4 Avenue to access westbound Bow Trail are encouraged to use 9 Street or 10 Street SW as alternate routes to access 6 Avenue.

Here is a list of more closures due to construction projects in the city.

  • 4 Avenue Flyover: reduced to a single lane.
  • Sunnyside Flood Barrier: Lane closure on eastbound Memorial Drive from 10 Street NW to Centre Street North. Westbound Memorial Drive is a single lane in both directions. Signal timing has been adjusted to optimize traffic flow.
  • Memorial Drive eastbound at Baines Bridge: new lane configuration in effect. Left lane closed (two lanes open).
  • 19 Street NW between 16 Avenue and 17 Avenue NW will be fully closed. Two westbound lanes on 16 Avenue NW will also be closed (one lane open westbound). (May 17 at 6 a.m. to May 20 at 5 a.m.)
  • Bow Trail at 85 Street SW: One lane open in each direction.
  • Barlow Trail at 90 Avenue SE: southbound lanes closed. Two-way traffic maintained on northbound lanes with Calgary Police Service (CPS) on site.
  • 4 Street SW at 7 Avenue SW: three left lanes closed beginning May 16 at 9 a.m. Full closure begins at 7 p.m. from May 16 to 20.

Swimming, rec centres, and more

Due to the popularity of free swims, the city asks that you only attend one time slot. Pools may be cleared at 2:30 p.m. to make room for new customers.
