Calgary’s Carla MacLeod up for PWHL Coach of the Year

Calgarian Carla MacLeod is a finalist for the 2025 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Coach of the Year.

The 42-year-old led the Ottawa Charge to their first-ever berth in the PWHL Playoffs, thanks to a 12-4-2-12 record. Notably, the Charge were the only team to achieve two three-game winning streaks in regulation, and they closed the season with a four-game winning streak on the road —the longest streak in the league.

The Charge are hosting defending champion Minnesota in the PWHL Finals, vying for the Walter Cup.

The award is presented to the head coach whose contributions most impacted their team’s on-ice success throughout the PWHL regular season.

MacLeod, a two-time Olympic gold medalist for Canada as a player, previously coached the University of Calgary Dinos women’s team before making the transition to the professional level. She also serves as the head coach of the Czechia national women’s hockey team.
