By CityNews Staff

Much of central Alberta remains under a severe thunderstorm watch late Monday, but a previous watch in place for the City of Calgary has been lifted.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued the alert for the city around 12:15 p.m. warning conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail.

Severe thunderstorm watch remains in place for most of central Alberta with warnings in place for areas just east of Red Deer and north of Edmonton. ECCC says thunderstorms will likely continue through the evening.

Damage to roofs, fences, branches, or soft shelters is possible.

Temperatures in Calgary for this last week of May are set to feel summer-like after days of persistent rain.

The forecasted high for Monday is 27 C with a UV index of 7 or high; Tuesday could see a high of 26 C with a UV index of 8 or very high; a high of 28 C and 29 C for Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, a high of 25 C on Friday, and 27 C on Saturday.
