Canada Post changing mail delivery in NW Calgary community due to coyote threat

A neighbourhood in NW Calgary is not getting their mail on time these days, with Canada Post delivery agents facing the threat of coyotes in the area. Rayn Rashid has more.

Coyotes, not a labour dispute, are forcing Canada Post to alter its mail delivery strategy in a northwest Calgary community.

In Cambrian Heights, not far from the urban greenspace of Nose Hill, there are a few prairie wolves hanging around.

A statement to 660 NewsRadio from Canada Post says the animals have forced post-people to temporarily change their strategy.

The company says the safety of its workers is top priority and so it has opted to employ a “team approach” in delivering mail to the community every three days.

Canada Post also tells 660 NewsRadio delivery agents are encouraged to make the call if they feel it is unsafe to deliver to a household.

Regular mail delivery will resume once the threat of a run-in with a coyote is no longer a major issue.

Any residents with questions about mail delivery can call Canada Post’s customer service team online at canadapost.ca/support or by telephone at 1-866-607-6301 (TTY: 1-800-267-2797).

On the labour front, Canada Post and the union representing 55,000 of its workers are set to head back to the bargaining table Wednesday. A ban on overtime remains in effect.
