Fire ban issued for all of Rocky View County due to hot, dry conditions

Now, officials are implementing a fire ban for all of Rocky View County.

A fire ban has been declared for all of Rocky View County due to hot and dry conditions.

Rocky View County Fire Services upgraded the status from a fire advisory to a ban on Friday due to “continued hot and dry weather conditions.”

The change is effective immediately and will remain in effect as long as the conditions remain.

The ban means all burning and fireworks are no longer allowed, with the following exceptions:

  • Indoor household fireplaces
  • Camp stoves (properly attended)
  • Barbecues (charcoal briquettes, propane, or natural gas)
  • Wood pellet grills
  • Propane/natural gas fire pit
  • Oil well flaring (registration required)

A fire ban is also in place for the entire Forest Protection Area of Alberta, meaning campfires are not allowed on public or private land, including campgrounds and backyards.

In Alberta, there were 57 active wildfires as of Friday with 22 considered out of control.

The Weather Network released their summer forecast last week predicting droughts, wildfires and powerful thunderstorms could be in the works across parts of Canada, with warmer-than-normal temperatures possible for the vast majority of the country.
