Excessive speed was likely a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash in northwest Calgary over the weekend, police say.
Emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of Crowchild Trail NW at the Sarcee Trail overpass around 2:50 p.m. Sunday for reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle.
Calgary police say a 20-year-old man on a Suzuki motorcycle was heading eastbound in the left lane when he lost control and crossed the right lanes before leaving the road.
The motorcycle continued eastbound off the road toward the Sarcee overpass when the rider was thrown from the bike, striking the based of the bridge.
The ride was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the collision,” reads a CPS police. “Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in this collision.”
Police are asking for anyone who saw the crash, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area, to reach out to them at 403-266-1234, or submit tips to CrimeStoppers anonymously.
