CTrain driver charged in collision that injured 11-year-old in NW Calgary

A 60-year-old CTrain driver is facing charges after an 11-year-old was struck by a CTrain, and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Calgary police have charged a CTrain driver in a collision involving a child back in April.

Around 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, police were called to Banff Trail Station at 2374 Banff Trail NW, for reports an 11-year-old pedestrian was hit by CTrain.

Investigators believe the child was crossing in the marked crosswalk as the train entered the LRT station travelling northbound, and the CTrain hit the pedestrian.

Police say the child was left with non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation by the Traffic Unit, Calgary Transit employee 60-year-old Gordon Steve Ferdinands, has been charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 3.
