Music, food, and fireworks: How to mark Canada Day in Calgary

Canada Day is on Tuesday, July 1, and there are plenty of events happening across the city to mark the occasion.
Here’s what’s happening in Calgary on the national holiday.
The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Canada Day Main Stage Show
- 3:20 p.m. – Opening Ceremony & National Anthem (Foxx Worthee)
- 3:50 p.m. – The Witching Hour
- 4:20 p.m. – Ginger Beef
- 5:30 p.m. – Lu Kala
- 6:55 p.m. – Big Sugar
- 8:20 p.m. – Aysanabee

St. Patrick’s Island 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Municipal Building 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Get ready to experience traditional cultural clothing! A variety of cultural groups will showcase authentic attire, giving you the chance to try them on and capture the moment at the photo booth.

East Village Street Fair 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Held annually on July 1, this event attracts more than 25,000 visitors who gather to take in over 50 vendors, food trucks, musicians, all ages activities, Pup Plaza, and the 5 Street Beer Garden.
It will happen along 8 Avenue SE, between 4 Street & 6 Street SE, and 5 Street Square to 9 Avenue SE.
Central Library 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be free activities and programs to celebrate and recognize Canada’s many stories. Activities will include a special storytime, traditional Indigenous dancing demonstrations, outdoor musical performances, and a citizenship ceremony for New Canadians.
King Eddy 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Canada Day at Studio Bell will feature live performances by six-piece Afro-fusion band Melafrique, R&B singer-songwriter Kate Stevens, and more.
The day will also feature pop-up performances of rare and fascinating items from the National Music Centre (NMC) Collection, including demonstrations on the historic Kimball Theatre Organ and the famed Steinway “Rhapsody in Blue” piano.
The Eddy will open at 11 a.m. with free, all-ages performances on the main floor and the rooftop patio, featuring folk duo Meadowsweet, singer-songwriter Dean Lauderdale, rock outfit Brother Bicker Band, CCMA-nominated country artist Jake Mathews, blues-rocker Ollee Owens, pop-country songstress Liz Christensen, and award-winning songwriter Troy Kokol.
Fireworks 11 p.m.
Canada Day will end with a fireworks show at approximately 11 p.m. launched from Stampede Park.
The best viewing location is at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland (formerly Fort Calgary).
You can also watch the fireworks from wherever you typically go to see Stampede fireworks. Onsite viewing at Stampede Park will not be available.
