15 vehicles left with flat tires after truck transmission falls out on Stoney Trail in NW Calgary

More than a dozen vehicles were left with flat tires on a Calgary highway Tuesday afternoon after debris from a truck was scattered on the roadway.

Calgary police say the incident happened in the eastbound lanes of Stoney Trail between 14 Street NW and Harvest Hills Boulevard NW around 4:15 p.m.

Police say the transmission of a commercial truck fell out onto the roadway after the vehicle experienced a “catastrophic mechanical issue.”

Several vehicles then drove over the debris leaving 15 with at least one flat tire, and one vehicle with a punctured gas tank.

Tow trucks were on scene for several hours to help change tires and tow vehicles away.

Eastbound Stoney Trail was shut down at 14 Street NW for around three hours for the cleanup. The road reopened around 7:30 p.m.
