Cyclist dies after being hit by dump truck in SW Calgary

A cyclist is dead after colliding with a dump truck in what Calgary Police Service are calling an unfortunate accident. Phoenix Phillips reports.

A man who was riding his bike in Calgary’s southwest Friday morning has died after police say he was hit by a dump truck.

The collision happened at the intersection of 26 Avenue SW and 32 Street SW just after 10 a.m.

EMS confirms the collision was between a cyclist and a dump truck. The cyclist ended up underneath the truck.

The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in critical and life threatening condition. Just before 12:30 p.m. police said he had died as a result of his injuries.

Officers say the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene.

Police say they are reviewing video from the scene and say impairment and speed are not considered factors.

The intersection of 26 Avenue SW and 32 Street SW was closed for several hours and reopened around 4 p.m.
