A restaurant south of Calgary has voluntarily closed its doors Wednesday after several people reported feeling ill after dining there last week.
Saskatoon Farm, located in Foothills County east of Highway 2, says in a post to social media it isn’t being forced to close by Alberta Health Services (AHS), but the restaurant’s team needs to regroup and co-ordinate following the situation.
On Tuesday, the business said it had learned of “unprecedented changes” to its water quality and that several people were left with flu-like symptoms after eating at the establishment on July 15 and 16.
It goes on to say staff learned of the problem on July 17 and actions were immediately taken to switch to an alternative water source that has been deemed satisfactory by AHS. As an added precaution, the restaurant says it has only been serving canned and bottled beverages, including water, and using bagged ice.
Saskatoon Farm says it takes the matter very seriously and is fully co-operating with the AHS investigation.
The restaurant will reopen to the public on Thursday.
“We also want to reassure you that the issue we experienced last week has been fully addressed and resolved,” the business said on Facebook Wednesday. “This brief pause is simply our way of ensuring we continue to operate at the highest standard possible.”
Anyone who dined at the restaurant on July 15 and 16 and experienced any flu-like symptoms is asked to contact hello@saskatoonfarm.com
The team said more information will be shared as it becomes available.
