Two people found in the southeast Manchester Industrial area on Sunday were seriously injured trying to steal property on the site, according to Calgary police.

The pair were found on Aug. 17 at the 5500 block of 5 Street SE just before 8 a.m. after a Good Samaritan responded to calls for help from a woman, bloodied and crawling on the road.

Officers found a man trapped under loaded pallets in a nearby yard of a local business, who was then extricated and rushed to hospital with the woman–both in critical condition.

“Investigators believe the individuals gained entry to the business and were attempting to steal property, which caused loaded pallets to collapse on top of them,” police tell CityNews in a statement.

Meanwhile, the status of the two has been upgraded to non-life-threatening condition, though the man now has life-altering injuries.

Police ask anyone with CCTV footage from the area at the time of the incident to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
