A bear cub spotted wandering around the southwest Signal Hill area in Calgary on Saturday was captured just hours later, according to Alberta Fish and Wildlife.
It happened several hours after Calgary police warned the public about the black bear walking about on the 2900 block of Signal Hill Drive SW at around 10:30 a.m.
At around 2:30 p.m., officers–who worked with Alberta Fish and Wildlife–say they safely captured the cub.
Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services (FWES) tells 660 NewsRadio in a statement that reports of black bear sightings in the southwest Discovery Ridge area were pouring in over the past couple of weeks, but added that the bear wasn’t getting into any unnatural food sources.
However, on the evening of Aug. 29, FWES received reports about a black bear they believe to be the same one seen in Discovery Ridge, now in the Sienna Hills neighbourhood in Signal Hill.
“FWES were able to successfully immobilize the young male bear without any incident,” rangers said.
They add that the bear has been relocated to rural Crown land out of caution.
FWES asks anyone who has seen any bears to report their sightings to its 24-hour line at 1-800-642-3800.
