28-year-old man charged in random attack at NE Calgary CTrain station

Charges have been laid against a man following an assault investigation stemming from an incident at a Calgary CTrain station in July.

A 28-year-old man is facing charges in an assault at a Calgary CTrain station this summer.

Just before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, a man was standing on the platform at the Marlborough CTrain Station at 36 Street NE, when he was approached from behind and assaulted.

The victim fell to the ground and briefly lost consciousness. The suspect left the scene.

According to police, the victim and suspect had no prior interactions and didn’t know each other.

The assault was determined to be random.

The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition, and later released.

Liam James Rooney is facing one count of assault.

His next court appearance is Oct. 15.
