Man in 70s suffers life-altering injuries in SE Calgary motorcycle crash

Calgary police providing further details about a collision that left a motorcyclist with life-altering injuries in the city’s southeast Wednesday afternoon.

A man in his 70s was rushed to the hospital with life-altering injuries following a motorcycle crash in southeast Calgary on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of Cranston Avenue and Cranbrook Drive S.E.

Police say the motorcyclist was riding a 2023 BMW R 1250 RT southbound on Cranston Avenue when the bike veered off the road, struck a concrete median, and lost control.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital with life-altering injuries.

Investigators do not believe speed, alcohol, drugs, or road conditions played a role in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

So far in 2025, Calgary has seen six fatal motorcycle collisions. As of Aug. 25, there have been 56 injury collisions involving motorcycles.
