‘Pause for Pets’: Meet the button-nosed cool and calm Melody

In this week’s 660 NewsRadio’s Pause for Pets, we take a moment to introduce you to the black and white seven-year-old cat, Melody.

She’s a cool domestic shorthair cat chilling at Calgary Animal Services right now, waiting for her forever home.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hello, I’m Melody, a seven-year-old black and white beauty with a calm, refined soul. I’m past the kitten shenanigans and prefer the simple things in life: a sunny window to watch the birds, a cozy cat tree to curl up in, and a peaceful home to call my own.

I’m a sweet girl who warms up once I feel safe and loved. You won’t find me causing chaos or swinging from curtains. I’m more of a “sip tea and read a book with you” kind of gal (metaphorically, of course… I don’t actually drink tea.)

How long have you been with The City?

I’ve been with Calgary Animal Services for a little while now, patiently waiting for my perfect match.

While I don’t clock in like the dogs do, I’ve made myself right at home–observing the world from my perch, offering quiet companionship, and occasionally supervising staff with a slow blink of approval.

What are your typical daily tasks?

My mornings start with some gentle stretches and sunbathing in the nearest patch of light.

After that, I enjoy a quiet breakfast, followed by birdwatching duties from my favourite window spot. I occasionally participate in “laser pointer security drills” and enjoy helping staff de-stress with some purring therapy.

Throughout the day, I keep a low profile–just enough presence to remind you I’m here when you need a companion, but never in the way.

What are your interests and hobbies?

I adore calm spaces, gentle petting, and soft blankets. A cat tree or warm windowsill is my idea of luxury. I like quiet companionship and being nearby while you work, read, or relax. I’m curious and observant–always keeping an eye on what’s going on, but in a dignified, lady-like way. Birdwatching is probably my top hobby, but I’m also open to trying new enrichment activities if they involve treats or soft toys.

What are you looking for in a home?

I’m looking for a calm, loving home where I can be appreciated for the mellow, mature queen I am. I’d do best in a quieter environment–maybe with a single person, couple, or family who enjoys peaceful evenings and gentle company.

If you have a warm window, a cozy corner, and room in your heart for a quiet companion, I’d love to meet you. I’ve got plenty of love to give, and I’m ready to find my forever home.
