‘We are doing everything we can’: Search continues for 5-year-old boy in southern Alberta

Various resources have been deployed to southern Alberta to aid in the search for a five-year-old boy who went missing Sunday morning.

RCMP say just after 11:30 a.m., officers in Crowsnest Pass received calls reporting Darius Macdougall disappeared while walking with his family.

The boy was last seen around four kilometres south of Crowsnest Pass near Island Lake Campground, according to police.

RCMP and conservation officers are on scene, as well as searchers from multiple agencies including Search and Rescue teams in Alberta and B.C.

The searchers are being supported by drones, dogs, and helicopters.

Police say extensive ground and air searches on Sunday were not successful. The search is still ongoing Monday and will continue overnight.

“There is a positive, the weather is very favourable in this area right now,” says RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney. “We are doing everything we can to find Darius and bring him home to his family.”

Darius is four feet tall with short brown hair, and was last seen wearing a blue/grey hoodie and sweatpants. Police say Darius is autistic, which may prevent him from responding to others.

Anyone who has any contact with the boy is asked to call RCMP at 403-562-2866. Those who wish to stay anonymous can contact CrimeStoppers.
