High-speed chase involving pickup truck, trailer ends in arrest near Airdrie

A dramatic police pursuit involving a stolen pickup truck and trailer came to a halt east of Highway 2 near Airdrie on Wednesday.

The incident began around 11:20 a.m. when Okotoks RCMP received an alert from Calgary police about a dangerous driver fleeing officers.

The suspect vehicle—a white and black dually pickup truck towing a beige Outback travel trailer—was believed to be stolen and was last seen in the rural Okotoks area near 388 Avenue.

RCMP officers began patrolling the area and found the vehicle around 20 minutes later, speeding eastbound on Dunbow Road and dangerously passing other traffic. Officers followed the vehicle covertly, supported by CPS surveillance, K9 units, and HAWCS helicopter.

Due to the suspect’s erratic driving and the size of the vehicle, the RCMP launched a multi-jurisdictional response. Units from Okotoks, Strathmore, Gleichen, and Airdrie RCMP, along with Police Dog Services (PDS) and the Emergency Response Team (ERT), were mobilized.

The suspect allegedly attempted to abandon the vehicle and steal others during the chase.

Officers disabled the vehicle on Highway 72 north of Airdrie, where the driver was arrested.

Shelbi Savidan, 33, of Edmonton, faces multiple charges including criminal flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000.
