1,200 leaders from Alberta municipalities gather in Calgary for annual convention, trade show

Hundreds of delegates from across Alberta will descend on the TELUS Convention Centre in Calgary starting Wednesday for what organizers are calling the province’s largest municipal gathering.

The Alberta Municipalities 2025 Convention and Trade Show runs until Friday.

Councillors, mayors, and other public officials will take courses, network, and more. Many of the 1,200 attendees are still settling in to their positions after being elected on Oct. 20.

A central part of the annual event is the ‘resolutions’ stage, where members can debate, discuss, and vote on issues they want to stand behind and advocate for to other levels of government. Among them will be removing the provincial property tax from the municipal tax bill and a motion to increase funding for Alberta’s libraries, supported by the City of Calgary.

They will also hear from Premier Danielle Smith on Thursday and Opposition Leader Naheed Nenshi on Friday.

Various provincial ministers will also be on hand to have dialogue with leaders and answer questions.
