Religious statue subject of vandalism, theft at Calgary’s St. Mary’s University

Police in Calgary are looking for a person who vandalized and stole part of a sculpture at St. Mary’s University.

It happened around 3 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, according to investigators.

The suspect is thought to have entered the campus on Bannister Road SE, driving a 2008-13 Nissan Rogue that had a stolen licence plate on it: CGT 4176.

The individual got out of the vehicle and used a saw to remove a corner portion of the ‘Homeless Jesus’ sculpture, which is made of bronze and valued around $30,000.

Video surveillance captured the suspect loading the stolen piece into the vehicle and driving away.
