Alberta premier to speak to energy sector at Calgary event

By CityNews Staff

Premier Danielle Smith is the keynote speaker at an event in Calgary Monday spotlighting the state of the energy industry.

The Canadian Association of Energy Contractors 2025 State of the Industry is being hosted at the Hyatt Regency hotel on Centre Street SE.

According to the group, the industry gathering brings together leaders from across the energy services and exploration sectors to examine the trends shaping the future, and how collective efforts can drive growth, innovation, and global competitiveness.

The event will also show a preview of the association’s State of the Industry Report and 2026 Rig Forecasts.

Following Smith’s speech, she will sit down for a fireside chat expected to cover Alberta’s leadership role in the sector and how Canada can work to strengthen its position as a reliable, world-class energy partner.

This event comes on the heels of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Albertan and Canadian governments last week, committing them to working toward building an oil pipeline to the West Coast and opening the door to changes to the coastal tanker ban.

The agreement pairs the pipeline project to the proposed Pathways Alliance carbon capture project and government officials say the two projects must be built in tandem.

It also outlines that Ottawa and Alberta will work with the Pathways Alliance partner companies — Canadian Natural Resources, Cenovus, ConocoPhillips Canada, Imperial and Suncor — to identify by April 1 new emissions-reduction projects to be rolled out starting in 2027.

Pathways Alliance is listed as the diamond sponsor for this event.
