A 17-year-old boy has been charged with multiple drug-related offences following a five-month investigation into two suspected fatal overdoses that occurred on the Tsuut’ina Nation earlier this year.
Calgary police say the overdoses happened in June 2025, and officers launched an investigation that eventually identified a youth suspected of trafficking cocaine.
According to police, the teen allegedly conducted drug deals during his school lunch breaks.
On Nov. 13, officers arrested the boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A search warrant executed at a residence led to the seizure of cellphones, cash, scales, bear spray, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
“It’s critical that those who sell drugs are held accountable for their actions,” said Calgary police Insp. Jeff Pennoyer in a statement. “This case is particularly disturbing since the accused is so young. We are glad we were able to get the accused, and drugs off the streets.”
The 17-year-old now faces a series of charges, including eight counts of trafficking a controlled substance, seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of possession of identity documents.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
