Calgary under fog advisory; weekend temperature swings expected

Motorists in Calgary and surrounding areas are being urged to exercise caution as dense fog blankets the region Friday afternoon, reducing visibility to near zero in some areas.

Environment Canada officials warn that visibility may suddenly deteriorate, creating hazardous driving conditions. Fog patches are expected to stick around into the evening.

Drivers are advised to turn on headlights, reduce speed, and maintain a safe following distance.

Temperature swings over the weekend

Friday afternoon will see cloudy skies with a chance of flurries and risk of freezing drizzle, according to Environment Canada.

Temperatures are expected to fall to -10 C, with wind chill making it feel closer to -16 C. Periods of snow will taper off overnight, with total amounts estimated between 2 and 4 centimetres.

Saturday is expected to bring cloudy skies and a daytime high of -9 C, though wind chill could make it feel closer to -18 C.

Things will warm up on Sunday, with sunshine returning and a daytime high of around -2 C. The clear skies will stick around into the evening with an overnight low of -2 C heading into the work week.
