A suspected impaired driver is in handcuffs Monday morning following a traffic stop near the CTrain line in Calgary’s downtown.

Calgary police say it happened shortly before 9 a.m. at 5 Avenue and 9 Street SW.

Police initially reported the driver stopped the vehicle on the tracks, impeding the flow of trains. In fact, officers had conducted a traffic stop on the truck which prevented the train arms from going down and stopping trains from crossing.

The truck stayed in place for a short time to allow for an investigation which caused disruptions to CTrain service in the area.

Calgary Transit said on social media there was no service on the Red Line between Sunnyside and Downtown and the Blue Line was also running 10 to 15 minutes behind heading out of the downtown to 69 Street Station due to the incident.

Regular transit service has since resumed.
