Calgary Police are out with more information on a deadly collision on Barlow Trail SE Wednesday evening.

A man is dead following a crash between a pickup truck and a semi-truck in southeast Calgary on Wednesday night.

Police say a 2024 GMC Sierra pickup truck was travelling northbound on Barlow Trail near the intersection of 26 Street SE when it collided with a semi-truck.

Investigators say the semi, a 2019 Freightliner with an unloaded trailer driven by a man in his 40s, was turning from eastbound 26 Street into the same lane of northbound Barlow Trail. The pickup struck the rear corner of the trailer and became entangled.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was not hurt and remained on scene.

Police are looking into speed as a possible factor in the crash. Alcohol and drug impairment are not believed to have played a role.

Calgary and surrounding areas were faced with treacherous driving conditions earlier in the day, but investigators say road conditions do not appear to have contributed to the crash.

A stretch of Barlow Trail was closed for the investigation, but roads have since reopened.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
