Woman in 40s killed in NE Calgary pedestrian crash

A woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in northeast Calgary on Thursday night.

The crash happened around 6:05 p.m. at the intersection of 26 Avenue and 32 Street NE.

Calgary police say a 2016 Honda Pilot, driven by a woman in her 50s, was travelling west on 26 Avenue and turning north onto 32 Street at the time of the crash.

The pedestrian had been standing at the northeast corner of the intersection and began crossing 32 Street when the walk signal activated. As she stepped into the crosswalk, the turning vehicle struck her, according to police.

The woman was rushed to hospital in life‑threatening condition and later died. The driver remained at the scene and was not hurt.

Police say speed and impairment are not considered factors. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
