Flames’ Beecher and Jets’ Stanley face NHL player safety hearings for roughing

A Calgary Flames forward and a Winnipeg Jets defenceman will face hearings with the NHL’s department of player safety Sunday for separate roughing incidents.

The two separate incidents happened on Saturday during games where both teams lost, with the Flames losing at home while the Jets lost on the road.

The Flames’ John Beecher caught the Nashville Predators forward Michael McCarron off-guard with a punch at around 13:15 of the first period.

It happened when the two players were tied up by two linemen following a brief fight at home in Calgary on Saturday, during the Flames’ 4-3 loss.

As a result, Beecher received a roughing minor and a misconduct.

Meanwhile, the Predators’ Logan Stanley dropped his gloves and punched an unsuspecting Brady Tkachuk 12:07 into the second period of the Jets’ 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Stanley was tacked with a roughing minor and an illegal equipment minor, while Tkachuk, upset after receiving the blow, was handed a 10-minute misconduct.
